Gannon or Guckert or Jeff or Jim...... The Guckert/Gannon episode is a prism (hopefully not too grandiose a term for this little mess) through which to view two more substantive issues. The first is, of course, the security issue. How did this fellow get into White House press conferences? Was he merely a pet of the White House and consequently got special treatment in their issuance of admission passes? Or, was he slick enough to somehow bulldoze his way in under a pseudonym? The second issue is the obvious duplicity of an individual who, it is alleged, works (or worked) as a male escort and simultaneously vilified homosexuals in keeping with the Republican party line. While that kind of duplicity is historically familiar in the USA, it is alarming that gay people are again being demonized and persecuted by the very majority that uses the label "moral".
